Begin Reading
Visit Daugherty Public Library District to collect the materials needed to begin the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten reading challenge! Reading is a vital part of life and learning for your child. This program will help you kick-start your child’s education and teach them a love of words, reading, and books.
How it works?
Spend time reading with your child every day and reach 1000 books before your child enters kindergarten.
- Sign up at the library to receive your first 100 books log.
- Record each book read. Repetition is good, so you may record a favorite book more than once.
- After you read 100 books, bring your child to the library with their finished log for a sticker and pick up the next 100 books log.
- Receive a next-level sticker every 100 books, a finger puppet after 500 books, and a Keepsake Book with a Special Book Plate after 1000 books.
- Once finished, receive a certificate of achievement; with the parents' permission, we will post your child's picture in the library and on the library's Facebook page.
